Safu

Crack the safe. With the crank.

Safu is a small safe-cracking game for Playdate. The crank is the dial: one turn of the crank is one turn of the knob, with a tick for every detent. Turn slowly, listen for the loud K-CHIK!, feel the dial shake, reverse direction and find the next one. Three sweet spots, then pull the handle.

A run lasts three minutes at most. The loop is short on purpose, and the modifiers keep every safe different.

How to play

• Crank turns the dial. Clockwise, counterclockwise, clockwise.
• Turn too fast and your progress resets. Turn too slow and the clock runs out.
• D-pad Down pulls the handle. Pull it before all 3 spots are found and you start over.
• B opens the pause menu, with a catalogue of every modifier.

13 modifiers, 3 per run

Every run deals three modifiers. Pairs that cancel each other out are never dealt together, and a few pairs make for a hard run.

• BLACKOUT: It is too dark to see. Listen for loud clicks.
• TOO LOUD: The clicks are silent. Watch for dial shakes.
• SCRAMBLED: Try both directions for each sweet spot.
• FOUR TUMBLERS: Find 4 sweet spots, then press Down.
• WANDERING: Sweet spots move when you stop turning.
• DECOY: Fake clicks end in a buzz, with no shake.
• ONE SHOT: Press Down too soon and you lose.
• GUARD: When you hear steps, stop for 3 seconds.
• NITRO: Tilt to keep the liquid from spilling.
• KEYPAD: Hold the dial still. Enter the arrows.
• GEAR MESH: Wait for the gap. Press Down to catch it.
• SPOTLIGHT: Tilt to reveal the pin. Crank to find its spot.
• DUST JAM: Puff the dust away (or hold Up). Free the stuck pin.
